I have purchased these boots a few times now and will continue to - I love them that much.
Yes, they have bit of an oil smell when new. Nothing huge or terrible and it goes away in a few days - I'm not sure why some ppl make such a big deal about this.
And, as others have pointed out, they also tend to tear where the elastic side panel is sewn in. This has happened on the last 3 pairs I've owned and always after about 4 months. That said, these boots fit right, look great, are very comfortable, require little to no break in time and they're versatile too; perfect for casual nights w/ jeans or with slacks for work or more formal nights out.
I give them 4 stars only due to the tendency to tear after only a few months use, else they'd be 5 stars all the way. I will buy them again.
